How to connect Instagram to Nixie Social?

This article is a step-by-step guide on how to connect your Instagram Business account to Nixie Social.

Meta requires users to connect Instagram to a Facebook page!

This is a step-by-step tutorial that guides you through the process of connecting an Instagram account to the Nixie Social platform. You might already have done some of these steps, like creating a Facebook Page, so skip the section and pickup from the next one.

1. Instagram Business Account

Step 0: Login

The first step is to log in to your Instagram account on a web browser. You can do this by visiting the Instagram website and entering your username and password.

Step 1: Go to Settings

Once you've logged in to your account, click on the "More" (1) button located at the bottom left of the screen and followed by selecting the "Settings" (2) option from the list.

Depending on the existing settings, you may see one of the two screens when switching to a business account. Look at Figure 2 as a reference, find the highlighted link in the image, and read its text.

  1. If it says "Switching to Personal account": (1 or left in image below) It means you have already changed your account to either business or creator mode. The account must be Business to have the required access for Nixie Social to work. Follow the instruction below to make sure you have the right setting.

Head to the "Professional Account" setting page and look for the link at the end of the form. (click here to see an example)

  • If you read "Switch to Creator account," it means everything is set up correctly, and you can skip the rest of this tutorial to section 2, Create a Facebook Page.
  • However, if the link shows "Switch to business account", click on it and confirm the switch. Everything will be set correctly after doing it, so skip the rest of this section and jump to section 2, Create a Facebook Page.
  1. If it says "Switching to professional account": (2 or right in image below) Click on the highlighted link and follow the rest of the steps in this section.

Step 3: Choose Type

In the next step, you need to choose the type of business account you want to create. Instagram offers two options - Creator or Business. You must select the Business option (1) for Nixie Social to work properly. Then, click on next (2).

The screenshot asks, 'Which Best Describes You?' The user can select either Creator (the top option) or Business (the bottom). The Business option is selected, and the next button is highlighted.

Step 4: Accept

Instagram offers additional features for business accounts. Read out the items and click on Next to accept them.

The list of three items you get additional features after switching to business mode. 1) Learn about followers, 2) Reach your customers, 3) Get new contact options.

Step 5: Select Category

You will be asked to choose a category that best describes your business. This will help Instagram recommend your account to people interested in your niche. Start by typing your business service to filter and find the appropriate option. (1) Then select from a list of categories. (2) Finally, click on the Done button. (3)

Also, you can select whether you want to show this information on your page by checking the "Show category on profile" option.

Step 6: Enter Business Info

In this step, you may provide your business contact information, such as email, phone number, and address. (2) This will allow your followers to get in touch with you directly from your Instagram profile. Or, you can skip this step by clicking "Don't use my contact info" (1).

The page asks for a 'review your contact info' and a form to request the mentioned information. At the bottom, there is the option to skip or save the information.

Step 6: Finish Up

You are done! Just click the button that says so and follow up to the next section.

2. Create Facebook Page

You can skip this section completly if you already have a Facebook page for your business.

Step 0: Login

The first step is to log in to your personal Facebook account. If you don't have one, you must create a personal account before creating a Facebook page.

Step 1: Navigate to Pages

Once you're logged in, navigate to your homepage by clicking on the home icon at the top of the page. (1) Now, you can click on the Pages link in the sidebar. (2)

Step 2: Create Page

Click on the "Create new Page" button located in the sidebar.

A create a new page will appear on the sidebar as the second item. There are other items, like if you have previous pages.

Step 3: General Info

On this page you will be asked to enter a name for your Facebook Page. It is a required field, and try to choose a name that accurately reflects your business or brand. (1 or left image) You'll also need to select a category that best describes your Facebook Page. It is also required, and be careful to start typing in the field and select a category from the list. (2 or middle image) Lastly, writing a simple bio for your business and clicking on the "Create Page" button is optional. (3 or right image)

If the button is grayed-out like the first two images, you either not wrote a page name or did not select the category from the list.

The first step is to create the page. Sidebar asks for the information. The right part of the screen shows a Facebook page scheme and how your information will look once the page is created.

Step 4: Contact Info

The next step is to enter your contact information. The only required field here is your business's phone number. You can fill out the rest of the fields for better recognition. Click on next (2) when you are done.

There are a number of fields in the sidebar. The second field is the phone number and the required one. The rest, like contact, Email, Adress, etc., are not required.

Step 5: Business Logo and Cover

Now it is time to add a profile picture and cover photo to your Page. (1) Choose images (or drag and drop in the area) that represent your brand or business and ensure they meet Facebook's image size and resolution guidelines. Then, click next. (2)

There are two options in the sidebar. The first is the profile picture, and the second field accepts the cover photo. It is possible to click on them to find the image or drag and drop a photo inside the area.

Step 6: Add WhatsApp (optional)

You can add WhatsApp contact to your Page to make it more accessible for the user to contact you. In this tutorial, we will skip this step by clicking the "Skip" button at the bottom of the sidebar.

There are two fields here; the first one is to write down your number, followed by a 'GetCode' button that will be used to verify the number.

Step 7: Build Audience

It is possible to invite your contacts to follow your new page. We use a test account, so there are no contacts to invite. If you have interested friends, feel free to select them here and click the next button.

The sidebar will show a list of contacts to select from. However, there are no contacts in this image since it is a test account.

Step 8: Finish Up

Select if you like to receive notifications or emails from Facebook. Then, Click on the "Done" button and congratulations! Your Facebook Page is now created.

The first item in the sidebar asks if you want to receive notifications on your page. The second item asks if you like to receive promotional emails from Facebook. The first item is selected, while the second one is not.

Step 0: Login

The first step is to log in to the Facebook account associated with the Page you want to connect to Instagram.

Step 1: Navigate to Pages

Once you're logged in, navigate to your homepage by clicking on the home icon at the top of the page. (1) Now, you can click on the Pages link in the sidebar. (2)

Step 2: Select the Page

Select the page you want to be associated with your Instagram account from the list in the sidebar under the "Your Pages" section.

Step 3: Go to Page Settings

Click on the "Settings" button from the sidebar. Keep in mind that the button might look grayed out. (visible in the image below) It means you are not switched to the page owner role and can not change the settings or access its data. You can click the button either way, and Facebook will ask if you want to switch. (as demonstrated in the second image) A modal will pop up, and you must click the "Switch" button!

The page section has a sidebar with options to manage the page—like the dashboard, creating posts, settings, etc. The main section of the page shows a preview of the page.

Step 4: Go to Linked Account

Now, you can select the "Linked Accounts" options from the sidebar.

The setting page shows different options on the sidebar like Privacy, Notification, inbox, etc. We need to click on the fifth item, ' Linked Accounts'.

Step 5: Select Instagram

Facebook supports linking to Instagram and WhatsApp. Select the Instagram option from the sidebar and click the "Connect Account" button. A modal will pop up (Figure 7) showing the information shared between the platforms; accept the notice by clicking on the "Connect" button. The next modal (Figure 8) asks if you also like to share Instagram messages. Let the platforms share the data and click the "Confirm" button.

The sidebar has two options: WhatsApp and Instagram. The Instagram section is shown in the screenshot, and there is one button in the center to start the connecting process.

There is a checkmark in the modal that asks 'Allow access to Instagram messages in Inbox' and a 'confirm' button.

Step 6: Login to Instagram

Enter your Instagram login credentials. Be cautious about what account credentials you are using. You must log in to your business account.

Step 7: Finish Up

It is all done. Your Facebook Page and Instagram account are now connected. You can head to the Nixie Social platform to connect to your Instagram account.

4. Connect Instagram Account to Nixie Social

Step 0: Login to Nixie Social

The first step is to navigate to the login page and enter your credentials. (Username and Password)

Step 1: Navigate to Connect Page

Click on the "Connect" link from the sidebar (1) once you are logged in, and click on the Add button associated with the Instagram channel. (2) A modal will show up that informs you a Facebook login page will appear. (Figure 2) It is a requirement from Meta to connect an Instagram account through Facebook. Click on "Connect" to continue with the process.

TThe sidebar has multiple options like Home, For You, Publish, etc. The fifth option is highlighted, which is the connect page. Also, the first channel on the main page is highlighted to connect an Instagram account.

A modal will appear to avoid confusion for users as to why a Facebook login page will appear while they are planning to connect an Instagram account. It says that it is a requirement from Meta.

Step 2: Facebook Login

In this step, you might see a different screen than Figure 3. The pop-up might ask you to enter your Facebook credentials. Or, you will see the following pop-up if you have already been signed in to your Facebook account. Click on the "Continue as ..." button to give appropriate privileges to Nixie Social.

Step 3: Select Instagram Account

The popup asks you to select the Instagram account you want to connect to. You might see different options depending on how many Instagram accounts you have set up in your Facebook account. You could choose "Select All" or only select the ones you want to manage with Nixie Social. (1) Then, click "Next." (2)

Step 4: Select Facebook Page

Now, choose the Facebook pages you want Nixie Social to access. You could choose "Select All" or only select the ones you want to manage. (1) Then, click "Next." (2)

There is a list of all the pages associated with the Facebook account to select the ones you want.

Step 5: The Perimissions

The Nixie Social platform needs to have several permissions to work. There are permissions like access to write a post on your behalf or read the posts statistics. Make sure all the permissions are set to "Yes" (1) and click on "Done." (2) Lastly, the final step in the Facebook login popup is to click on "OK" to confirm that the connection was successful. The pop will close, and you will be directed back to the Nixie Social dashboard.

There is a list of permissions like accessing profile, uploading files, etc.

Step 6: Select The Correct Page

A new modal will show up that displays the pages that Nixie Social has access. You must select the Facebook Page that is linked to your Instagram account. (1) Otherwise, you will see an error.

Step 7: Done!

You are done. At this point, you see the Instagram business account's username (as displayed in the following figure) and a success message on the bottom right of the screen.

Congrats!
