Closing a Chapter: The Journey of NixieSocial

From startup pitch competitions to nonprofit collaborations, NixieSocial’s journey was one of growth, learning, and community.

Featured in BizX Magazine’s January issue, NixieSocial was recognized for its innovative approach to transforming social media management through smarter automation and accessible digital tools.

After much reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision to shut down NixieSocial.

This isn’t an easy post to write. NixieSocial has been more than just a product, it’s been a journey filled with learning, community, experimentation, and growth. While this chapter is coming to an end, the experience and relationships built along the way will stay with me.

NixieSocial officially began its journey on May 16, 2022, starting as an ambitious idea with a mission to help businesses and nonprofits simplify their social media through automation and AI. Over the past four years, it has grown through invaluable lessons, meaningful collaborations, community support, and continuous evolution. Now, exactly four years later, this chapter is coming to a close. While NixieSocial may be shutting down, the memories, experiences, and entrepreneurial foundation built throughout this journey will continue to shape what comes next.

Where It All Began

NixieSocial started its journey as part of the RBC EPIC Founders Program at the University of Windsor EPICentre.

That 12-week program was foundational. It taught me what entrepreneurship actually looks like beyond the idea stage, how to talk to customers, validate assumptions, gather feedback, and iterate quickly. It was also where NixieSocial gained early traction and recognition, ultimately securing second place in the final pitch competition.

A heartfelt thank you to Sydney and Paul for their warm welcome, guidance, and continuous encouragement throughout the program.

Growing Through Community

Another key part of this journey was working with WEtech Alliance.

Through their mentorship and programming, I had the opportunity to deepen my understanding of building and growing a startup. I also participated in a digital marketing course that helped shape how I approached positioning and outreach.

Special thanks to Susana for her mentorship and for always being generous with her time and insights.

Learning Through Collaboration

NixieSocial was never built in isolation. One of the most valuable aspects of this journey was collaborating with organizations like Auctria.

A special thank you to Laurie for providing invaluable feedback, thoughtful insights, and countless pointers that helped shape and improve the service.

Through these collaborations, I gained a deeper understanding of the nonprofit space, its challenges, its needs, and how technology can better support it. These insights directly influenced how I shaped the product and the problems I aimed to solve.

Sharing the Journey

Along the way, I had the privilege of speaking and presenting in various communities and events, including:

These moments were incredibly rewarding, not just for sharing what I was building, but for connecting with others, exchanging ideas, and learning from different perspectives.

The People Who Made It Matter

To everyone who used NixieSocial, from the earliest days when it was still called Socialization, thank you.

Your feedback, support, and willingness to try something new helped shape the product in ways I couldn’t have done alone. Every suggestion, critique, and conversation made it better.

What’s Next

While this marks the end of NixieSocial, it’s not the end of the journey.

I’ll continue to be part of the startup ecosystem, building, learning, and exploring new ideas. This experience has only strengthened my belief in creating things that matter and solving real problems.

Final Thoughts

The journey of NixieSocial has been filled with lessons, challenges, and meaningful connections. Shutting it down doesn’t erase that, it highlights it.

Thank you to everyone who was part of this chapter.

On to the next one.
